Stop fighting your heater

If your Airstream Basecamp feels too hot… if your heater won't shut off… or you're constantly setting the temperature lower than it should be…

You're not imagining it. The thermostat sensor placement is the problem.

From the factory, the temperature sensor sits recessed inside a cold exterior wall cavity. It isn't reading your cabin — it's reading the air trapped in the wall. That air runs colder than the space you're actually sitting in, so the thermostat thinks the trailer is colder than it is and keeps the heater running long past the point you're comfortable.

This upgrade fixes it

The relocation extension moves the sensor out of the wall cavity and into your living space, where it belongs.

The sensor mounts into a printed extension that reaches past the wall opening and holds it in the cabin air. Grooves and vent holes through the body keep air moving freely across the sensor, so it reads genuine ambient interior temperature instead of the cold pocket behind the panel.

The result is a thermostat that reflects the room. Set it to 68°F and you get 68°F — the heater cycles when it should instead of overrunning, which means a more comfortable cabin and less propane burned chasing a number that was never accurate.

Installation — press fit, no wiring changes

Nothing is cut, drilled or rewired. You may want a small flat-blade screwdriver to help ease the original sensor out of the wall — beyond that, it's all hand pressure.

1. Ease the existing sensor out of the wall and disconnect it. A flat-blade screwdriver helps here.
2. Pass the wire through the extension.
3. Twist the extension into the wall opening and press it into place.
4. Reconnect the sensor and feed it back into the extension until it press-fits home.

That's the whole job. Because everything is friction fit and the original wiring is untouched, the modification is fully reversible — pop it back out and you're at factory condition.
